Jump Start Prius, How To do It?

Jump start Prius, how to do it?

The popular Prius from Toyota has been known and recognized for being the hybrid cars, designed since 1997 by Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) via the use of standardized platforms, powertrains, etc. It was up with the aims to optimize efficiency and minimize emissions so that an enjoyable and safe drive with enhanced fuel efficiency can be achieved. Although hybrid vehicles are a bit different or say complicated, a dead battery can always be dealt with the correct guide. To jump start Prius, it is nothing much different than jumping a gas-powered car. All that one may require includes the jumper cable, another vehicle for help, and a solid metallic point.

Step by step guide to jump start Prius

**Prior to moving towards the instructions, ensure that Toyota Prius and the vehicle being arranged for help to jump start have their engines off.

Step 1 – By pulling the hood release, release the hood of your Toyota Prius. Pull back the lever to release the hook beneath the hood and place the rod from inside to maintain the hood open.

Step 2 – Looking for the fusion box is the next step to follow and reach to the jump start Prius terminal.

Step 3 – Look for the red + battery tab for making a connection towards the positive terminal in the car. Open up the tab and place the positive jumper cable to the positive terminal while connecting the second positive cable to the other car that has been arranged as an assisting vehicle.

Step 4 – Place the negative cable clamp to the negative battery terminal on the assisting vehicle while securing the second negative clamp to the solid metallic point which is a distance away to keep you safe. **Choose to have the metallic point which is both non-movable and unpainted.

Step 5 – Now start the engine of the assisting vehicle and allow it to run for at least 5 minutes. Now start your hybrid car and ensure that you wait for the notification that says “Ready”. **You’ll be hearing the whirring sound once the power has been restored. **Before you push the start button, make sure that you press and keep hold onto the brake pedal.

Step 6 – Once done, remove the jumper cable in the reverse order (like the negative placement first and then the positive).

Step 7 – Congratulations that you are done. But if not, continue with the next step that demands to open the rear hatch for getting access to the actual battery. **Most of the time, the power is not enough and this is when you have to move or jump towards the actual battery (a rare condition)

Step 8 – Pull the lever and look for the battery panel by removing the black floor mat. Look for the positive battery terminal and move forward with the placement of the positive cable clamp and similarly the negative cable clamp.

Step 9 – Now start the engine of the assisting vehicle and allow it to run for at least 5 minutes. Now start your hybrid car and ensure that you wait for the notification that must say “Ready”. **Before you push the start button, make sure that you press and keep hold onto the brake pedal.

Step 10 – Congratulations if done. But if not, get your car checked by the professionals.

How the engine and electrical systems work together?

Having the two, i.e. the battery elective drive and the internal combustion engine, Prius can reduce the emission. The power being delivered from the traction battery is being controlled by the power electric controller that controls both the speed of the motor and the torque that it produces. Where the fuel tank serves as the storage of gasoline, the traction battery pack aims to store the electricity which can later be consumed via the electric traction motor. The electricity to be stored is being generated from the electric generator that works when the wheels are rotated with braking. The engine also works due to the placement of the exhaust system that serves to transfer the exhaust gases from the engine using the tailpipe. The introduction of the three-way catalyst is designed to minimize the emission within the system. Similarly, the thermal system cools down the operating temperature to let the hybrid car keep on running at a fast pace. To transfer the mechanical power, there is this transmission that then helps out in driving the wheels.

Jump start Prius in the USA When it’s about if it is possible to jump start Prius like the other vehicles in the USA, Toyota with the launch of Prius meets the SULEV (super ultra-low emissions vehicle) standards being followed in the USA. The hybrid engine of the vehicle is therefore capable enough to speed up to 24kph on the consumption of electric power solely. Hence, resulting in better city and highway mileage
